oscar red carpet: best & worst

There weren’t too many surprises at the Oscars last night. The King’s Speech for Best Picture, Natalie Portman for Best Actress, Colin Firth for Best Actor, and so on and so forth.

What we were pleasantly surprised with though was how Hollywood’s biggest stars filled the Red Carpet with many distinctive and elegant dresses. Lace, sparkles, and embroidery embellished many of our favorite gowns as lavender and cream became the new black.

fashion week faves

NY Fashion Week Fall 2011 is not over yet, but I’ve got to say, so far Marc Jacobs and Rodarte have been my two favorite shows for very different reasons: Rodarte brought back the nostalgia of my Midwest roots, and Marc Jacobs (not surprisingly) was edgy, creative, and cool. I only wish I could have been in the front row to enjoy all of this fashion glory!

ny fashion week

It’s that time again – Fashion Week in NYC! And with that comes two things: 1. Models and designers running rampant on the Upper West Side. 2. An abundance of great street fashion, which can give us all a little inspiration!

Here’s a few examples of what we’ve seen so far:

flared legs

This spring is all about flare! A throwback to the 70s, a wide leg elongates the legs and slims your waist and hips. To achieve that “legs for days” look, keep your hem long and pair your flares with high-heels or wedges.

Don’t panic, though, your skinnies are still perfectly acceptable—I mean, how would we survive the rain and slush without them?

spring is {kind of} in the air

Have you had a chance to look at the new J. Crew Spring lookbook?
It’s killing me how great it is!

I’m not too crazy about the styling, but I sure do love the colors. Can we also take a minute and look at the peplum shorts and lacy blazer? Fabulous! Spring cannot come soon enough!

men's casual shoes

I love Esquire and its great tips for men’s fashion, so I’ll let them more eloquently and cleverly take on today’s topic. Regarding men’s casual shoes, Esquire fashion editors say, “A man still needs at least one pair of casual shoes that look like something ol’ Siggy might’ve cobbled himself. Something with a beefy sole and some firm support in the arch. Something durable that can take both a polish and a beating. And, most important, something with some personality to it.”

Follow this link for some great tips on how to wear casual shoes “the right way” and “the Esquire way.” Enjoy!
